📜 THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG
Nobody knows who wrote it.
The oldest traces of "The House of the Rising Sun" reach back to 17th-century English folk ballads — songs about ruined lives, gambling houses, and the long road to nowhere. When the tune crossed the Atlantic, it settled into the mountains of Appalachia and the streets of New Orleans, sung by miners, prisoners, prostitutes, and drifters. Every generation rewrote the words. Every generation kept the melody.
In 1937, folklorist Alan Lomax recorded a sixteen-year-old miner's daughter named Georgia Turner singing it in Middlesboro, Kentucky. It was published in 1941. Woody Guthrie sang it. Lead Belly sang it. Josh White sang it. Bob Dylan put it on his debut album in 1962.
Then, on a single take in May 1964, four young men from Newcastle walked into a London studio — and everything changed.
The Animals recorded their version in fifteen minutes. It was released on June 19, 1964. By August, it was #1 in the United Kingdom. By September, it was #1 in America.
That same August, the U.S. Congress passed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution. By the end of the year, American combat troops were on their way to Vietnam.
The song and the war arrived together.

🇺🇸 THE SONG THAT FOLLOWED A GENERATION
For the next decade, "The House of the Rising Sun" followed young American soldiers across the Pacific. It played on transistor radios in the barracks at Da Nang. It played on tape decks in the jungles of the Central Highlands. It played on jukeboxes in Saigon bars where GIs drank and did not talk about what they had seen that week.
Nobody had written it about the war.
And yet it fit the war perfectly.
"There is a house in New Orleans…" — the words spoke of a place a boy should never have gone. Of a mother's warning ignored. Of a life bound by things one could no longer escape.
For a generation of American soldiers — many of them barely eighteen — that was the war in a single verse.
58,220 of them never came home.
303,000 more came home wounded.
And the rest came home changed in ways the country had no vocabulary for.

This one is not.
This is a dark ballad arrangement — slower, heavier, more haunted. Built for the memory of a soldier decades later, sitting in a quiet room, listening to a song that once played on a radio in a jungle he would never forget.

Animators Esteban Bravo and Beth David said of making this short film, “We wanted to tell a story that was relevant to Freddie's life, but not explicitly about him. The AIDS crisis of the 1980s is a huge part of LGBT+ history, and it's something that we knew needed to be handled with care. It's a fine line to walk between shedding light on a subject, and perpetuating a stigma, and we were cautious not to lean into tropes and stereotypes that might hurt the modern understanding of the AIDS virus, rather than help it.
In researching the HIV/AIDS virus and the way it affects the body's immune system, we were inspired to take a look at the story through a more microscopic lens. It is a love story between two white blood cells, one of which has become infected by the virus. This perspective gave us a more direct visual representation of our conflict, which allowed us to explore the more nuanced struggles the characters face in their relationship with each other, their perceptions of themselves, and society's perception, bias, and neglect of them.
The LGBT+ community fought for years for the right to proper research and healthcare, and because of that fight, millions of lives have been saved. We wanted to celebrate that victory. Through perseverance, strength, and love, our characters not only survive, but live long, healthy lives together.”

Nel frattempo, due audizioni tenute nelle ultime settimane hanno fatto emergere nuovi elementi sulla gestione dei fondi pubblici durante l'emergenza, con al centro il nome dell'avvocato Luca Di Donna.
A ricostruire i fatti è Alice Buonguerrieri, componente della Commissione: "Abbiamo impiegato ben due anni a convincere l'allora premier Conte a farsi audire in Commissione Covid. L'audizione è rimandata al 5 di ottobre e in quell'occasione avremo modo di chiedergli tante cose su cui riteniamo doveroso continuare a fare accertamenti, sia sul filone medico-scientifico che sulla gestione dei soldi pubblici".
Alla ripresa dei lavori, spiega, sono arrivate due audizioni che hanno aggravato il quadro: quella dei legali rappresentanti della società Portobello, messa in ginocchio dalle chiusure imposte dal governo Conte, e quella dell'associazione FederLab. "Rappresentanti della società hanno dichiarato di aver pagato 125.000 euro all'avvocato Luca Di Donna per fissare un appuntamento con Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, società di Stato, per ottenere un finanziamento pubblico, di fatto ottenuto, pari a 3,5 milioni di euro, su cui questa società ha pagato il 3,5% all'avvocato Di Donna". Un canovaccio che si è ripetuto quasi identico con FederLab: "Hanno dichiarato di aver pagato circa 20.000 euro all'avvocato Luca Di Donna per aver fissato per conto loro un appuntamento con il dottor Vito Cozzoli, presidente ai tempi della società Sport e Salute, altra società di Stato, per concludere una convenzione".
Lo studio Alpa e i rapporti "istituzionali elevati"
In entrambi i casi, secondo Buonguerrieri, la presentazione dell'avvocato Di Donna alle aziende seguiva lo stesso schema: "È stato presentato come il collega dell'allora premier Conte, braccio destro dell'allora premier Conte, componente dello studio Alpa che è noto per essere lo studio dove ha lavorato l'allora premier Conte, capace di avere rapporti politico-istituzionali molto elevati e in grado quindi di accedere ai vertici delle amministrazioni dello Stato." E i risultati, sottolinea, sono arrivati puntuali: "Effettivamente poi tutto quello che veniva detto si avverava, perché il risultato poi si portava a casa. Sono tutte coincidenze? Dobbiamo parlare di millantato credito? A me sembra che siamo un po' oltre".
A chi solleva malignamente un parallelismo con le vecchie tangenti — "oggi si chiama commissione, oggi si chiama consulenza" — Buonguerrieri non solo dà sponda ma cita un altro audito, l'imprenditore Buini, che si sarebbe rifiutato di pagare "queste percentuali spropositate e ingiustificate proprio perché ha ritenuto in quel momento che stesse commettendo un reato" parlando esplicitamente di ipotesi di tangente. E per fugare ogni dubbio sui termini giuridici, chiarisce: "A casa mia millantare significa promettere di fare qualcosa senza riuscire a farlo. Qui ormai i fatti ci dicono che si spendeva il nome dell'allora premier Conte… ed effettivamente poi tutto quello che veniva detto si avverava".
Il caso Maiorino e l'etichetta "no-vax"
Buonguerrieri torna infine sul convegno organizzato a Milano dal consigliere regionale Maiorino, dedicato all'ascolto dei danneggiati da vaccino, contestato da esponenti del PD: "Consentitemi di esprimere massima solidarietà ai danneggiati da vaccino che ancora oggi la sinistra ha il coraggio di attaccare, denigrare, umiliare. Noi stiamo parlando di persone che si sono vaccinate perché si sono fidate delle istituzioni e che dopo il vaccino si sono trovate ad affrontare malattie, disabilità, problemi economici e familiari. Io trovo vergognoso che la sinistra, Schlein in primis, chiami ancora oggi con disprezzo queste persone no-vax. Quello che posso riconfermare è che Fratelli d'Italia continuerà nel percorso avviato di ascolto di queste persone per tentare di risolvere i tanti gravissimi, pesantissimi danni che hanno procurato le gestioni dei governi di allora. Questa sinistra non ha alcun titolo per essere esempio per nessuno, tenuto conto del comportamento che tiene nei confronti di persone che stanno male".

Dopo i disordini del 17 e 18 ottobre nel centro di Milano, il ministro della Difesa Guido Crosetto ha parlato, al Defence Procurement Forum di Roma. "I fatti di Milano e di altre parte d’Italia sono profondamente diversi da quelli vissuti in altre epoche e sono il frutto di quella che io chiamo “guerra ibrida” che qualcuno sta portando nelle nostre Nazioni ricorrendo a strumenti non convenzionali che si chiamano TikTok, social, Youtube senza che l’Occidente se ne renda conto ed in qualche modo reagisca". Per Giorgio Bianchi, fotoreporter, il messaggio è chiaro: "Crosetto ci sta informando che attraverso i social network, e ancora meglio attraverso l'intelligenza artificiale, si può plasmare la mente dei giovani, si può dare vita a una sorta di controeducazione che fa sì che questi soggetti siano conosciuti da queste entità meglio delle loro famiglie e possano essere manipolati".

Quarantatré anni fa, un militare sovietico si rifiutò di obbedire a un computer e salvò l'umanità dall'apocalisse #nucleare. Quella storia oggi parla più forte che mai.
Era il 26 settembre 1983. I monitor del sistema di allerta sovietico segnalarono il lancio di cinque missili balistici americani. Il protocollo era chiaro: comunicare l'allarme ai vertici, i quali avrebbero risposto con un contrattacco nucleare. La terza guerra mondiale sarebbe iniziata in pochi minuti.
Stanislav Petrov, tenente colonnello di turno quella notte, non premette il pulsante.
Qualcosa non tornava. Cinque missili soltanto? Gli Stati Uniti ne avrebbero lanciati centinaia. I radar terrestri non confermavano nulla. Il sistema informatico diceva attacco. Il suo ragionamento diceva aspetta. Decise di fidarsi del ragionamento. Era un falso allarme: un'anomalia dei sensori, ingannati dal riflesso solare su alcune nuvole.
#Petrov morì nel 2017. Il mondo che aveva salvato non sapeva nemmeno di dovergli qualcosa.

La Commissione parlamentare d’inchiesta sul #Covid ha ascoltato Loredana Frasca, ricercatrice senior dell’Istituto superiore di sanità e tra le autrici di una review sugli eventi avversi dei vaccini anti-Covid pubblicata sulla rivista Pathogen. Sul lavoro l’ISS aveva preso le distanze con una nota ufficiale, precisando che non rappresentava la posizione dell’Istituto e definendolo un’analisi parziale. Le opposizioni, da parte loro, hanno più volte contestato la conduzione dei lavori della Commissione.
Il caso Frasca
“Per la prima volta nella sua carriera ha subito una lettera di richiamo per aver fatto banalmente il suo lavoro”. Così Alice #Buonguerrieri, deputata di Fratelli d’Italia e capogruppo in Commissione Covid, in diretta ai nostri microfoni. Alla domanda sui motivi delle critiche allo studio, riferisce, la risposta ottenuta sarebbe stata una sola: “il contenuto era troppo delicato per il pubblico”.
Per l’esponente di FdI il quadro è netto: “Qui non siamo di fronte alla scienza, qui siamo di fronte ad una dittatura, e me ne assumo tutta la responsabilità”. Un giudizio politico, che arriva dopo che Buonguerrieri ha collegato la vicenda a un’opera di “insabbiamento che non ha precedenti nella storia della Repubblica Italiana”.

Il caso legato a Sigfrido #Ranucci resta al centro di un procedimento giudiziario ancora aperto, tra l'inchiesta sull'attentato dinamitardo del 16 ottobre 2025 a Pomezia — che ha portato all'arresto di Valter #Lavitola, indicato come mandante — e il comitato etico attivato dalla Rai. A complicare il quadro è arrivata l'inchiesta del Tempo, diretto da Daniele Capezzone, sui compensi della redazione di Report, la cosiddetta "Reportopoli", con querele annunciate dagli inviati del programma. Ai microfoni di Un Giorno Speciale, Alberto Contri, Antonio Amorosi e Fabio #Duranti hanno discusso non del merito giudiziario, ma del rapporto tra giornalismo e credibilità pubblica.
Il primo nodo sollevato riguarda la postura pubblica riservata a Ranucci. Alberto Contri si è chiesto perché figure come Paolo #Mieli frequentassero certi ambienti "e come mai non ce lo raccontano", concludendo che "viviamo tutta una grande ipocrisia" e invitando a "rinforzare la ricerca del senso critico". Fabio Duranti ha ripreso il tema notando come in udienza si sia arrivati a vedere "giornalisti che si spellano le mani davanti a un magistrato", un'immagine che a suo dire non dovrebbe mai verificarsi quando informazione e giustizia si incontrano. Duranti ha aggiunto che lo stesso schema si ripete anche in altri contesti istituzionali, segno di un più generale corto circuito tra osservatori e osservati.
